Martin
makes it 2 out of 3
Crossville,
TN (August 11th) – In Late Model action it was #90
Mark Martin setting fast time with a lap of 13.10.
Second quick was #10 Chris Wilson with a 13.16 lap.
Heat race #1 saw Martin take the win, with #4X Joe
Cline finishing in second and #77 Perry Delaney
rounding out the top three. In the second heat race,
Wilson came out on top with #5M Scott Shelton finishing
in second and #84 Buddy Knox rounding out the top
three.
The exciting 30-lap Late Model feature saw Martin
jump into the lead with Wilson in his tire tracks.
Cline was running in third, Shelton was in fourth,
and Knox was rounding out the top five. On lap 2,
Knox moved into fourth. Lap 3 saw Delaney get into
fifth past Shelton. On lap 4, #77 Robby Reagan got
by #58 Kenny Cobble for sixth. Knox slowed on the
track on lap 14, allowing Delaney to get by for
fourth, and Reagan for fifth. Lap 16 saw #8 Trent
Mullinax drive around Cobble for sixth. Mullinax
moved into fifth on lap 20. Up front, Wilson dogged
Martin for the lead, as he could get up to Martin’s
door but just couldn’t get around him. Martin changed
his lines several times, trying to find the best
way around the track. Wilson stayed on the bottom
on the track. Martin stuck with the topside of the
track, as the two leaders continue to battle for
the lead. There was some tense moments towards the
end of the race as the leaders found themselves
in lap traffic. The leaders got by without a scratch
and carried on the fight. On lap 28, Trent Mullinax
moved up a couple of spots into third. Martin would
lead the race flag-to-flag for his second win of
the year. Wilson finished a very close second, Mullinax
was third, Delaney fourth, and Cline rounded out
the top five. Rounding out the top ten was Reagan,
Cobble, #76 Fred Flatt, #17 Andy Miller, and #17J
Creed Jackson.
In Street Stock action, it was #10B Bradley Lewelling
winning heat race #1 and #11 Raymond Shepherd taking
the win in heat race #2. The 20-lap feature was
an exciting one, as Shepherd grabbed the lead at
the start. Lewelling was running in second and #84
Jason Savage was in third. On lap 3, #9 John Ross
made his way into the top five. Lap 6 saw #28 Brian
Vaughn get by Ross for fifth. On lap 8, Vaughn slipped
by #2 Dennis Grable for fourth, and then moved to
third a lap later. Lewelling really started putting
pressure on Shepherd for the lead on lap 11. Lewelling
took the point on lap 13, as Shepherd found himself
in second. On lap 15, Vaughn got by Shepherd for
second. Two laps later Shepherd moved back into
second. But nobody could catch Lewelling, as he
cruised to his second win of the year at the track.
Shepherd finished in second, Savage was third, Vaughn
fourth, and #18 Chris Nix rounded out the top five.
The Front Runner class also had two heat races,
and in the first one it was #92 Nick Adams taking
home the win, with #L92 Lucas Presley winning heat
race #2. Adams took the lead at the start of the
20-lap feature, with Presley putting pressure on
him. #A93 Nathan Adams was running hard in third
and #57 Stephen Conley was in fourth. The race up
front was what the people were watching, as the
two team mates were going at it. On lap 18, it was
Adams slowing on the track allowing Presley to get
by for the win. Nathan Adams finished in second,
Conley was third, #25JR George Willis fourth, and
Nick Adams rounded out the top five.
The Jr. Hornets saw one of the better turnouts of
the year for this class, and in the heat race it
was #17 Carlie Mullinax powering to the win. The
ten lap feature started with Mullinax moving into
the lead. #117 Jacob White was running second and
#01 Kane Pelfrey was in third. On lap 6 #K46 Kenzie
Kirkland got by Pelfrey for third. Two laps later
Pelfrey powered back into third. Lap 9 saw White
get by Mullinax and hold on for the win. Mullinax
finished second, Pelfrey was third, Kirkland fourth,
and #25JR rounded out the top five.
