Weaver
gets home town win
Crossville,
TN (July 7th) – Saturday brought somewhat cooler
weather but the racing action was hot, hot, hot
at the track.
In the Late Model division, 24 drivers signed in
for an action packed night. In qualifying, it was
#77 Perry Delaney setting fast time with a season
low lap of 13.12 around the historical 1/3 mile
clay oval. #10 Chris Wilson was second quick with
a lap of 13.14. The third quick qualifier was #4X
Joe Cline with a 12.24 lap, #16 Randy Weaver was
fourth at 13.36, and #5J Jesse Lowe was the fifth
fast qualifier with a lap of 13.47. After qualifying,
Delaney rolled a 6, meaning the entire 6-car Hoosier
Dash would be inverted. In the Hoosier Late Model
Dash, it was #84 Buddy Knox taking the win, with
Lowe finishing in second, and Weaver was third.
The first Late Model heat race, #77 Robby Reagan
took the win, followed by #5M Scott Shelton in second
and #76 Lynn Selby was third. The second Late Model
heat race, #00 Ruben Mayfield grabbed the win, followed
by #31 Kenny Cobble in second and #12 Mark Hayden
in third. In the Late Model Last Chance race, with
the top two cars moving on to the feature, #R14
Rickey Lewis was the winner and #99 Dustin Golden
finishing in second.
The 30-lap feature started with Knox moving into
the lead, followed by Weaver, Wilson, Lowe, and
Cline. On lap 4, Wilson got by Weaver for second.
On lap 10, Weaver returned the favor by getting
by Wilson for second. Lap 14 had Cline get by Lowe
for fourth. Weaver would power by Knox for the lead
on lap 18. Wilson scooted by Knox for second on
lap 24. Cline got by Knox for third on lap 25. Business
picked up in the front, as Wilson started putting
pressure on Weaver. Weaver, running the high side
of the track held off Wilson and took the win. Wilson
was second, Cline was third, Knox fourth, and Lowe
rounded out the top five. Finishing six through
tenth was Reagan, Shelton, Delaney, Cobble, and
#48 Andy Picklesimer.
In Street Stock action it was #48 Reagan Williams
winning the heat race. The 20-lap feature started
with Williams powering into the lead. Williams led
until lap 3, when something on his ride broke and
he turned right toward the turn two outside wall.
Williams the turned left and come back down the
track into traffic. Williams then clipped #9 John
Ross resulting in Ross rolling over his car violently
two to three times before finally coming to a stop
on its top. After a few minutes, Ross emerged from
his car unhurt. The race restarted with #84 Jason
Savage at the point. Savage would lead the remaining
7 laps to win the time shortened race. This was
Savage’s 6th win of the year at the track. #23 Clint
Carter was second, #83 Jeff Savage finished third,
#K37 Dwayne Hutcheson fourth, and #4 Shane Hancock
rounded out the top five.
#46 Cody Rector and #92 Nick Adams won the heat
races in the Front Runner class. Rector grabbed
the lead at the start of the 20-lap feature, followed
by Adams and #57 Stephen Conley. Adams put pressure
on Rector from the beginning. On lap 4, #L92 Lucas
Presley moved by Conley for third. Lap 13 saw Presley
get by Adams for second. Immediately, Presley began
putting a great amount of pressure on Rector. On
lap 14 #A93 Nathan Adams slipped by Conley for fourth.
Rector and Presley was putting on one heck of a
race up front, as they were racing side by side
around the whole track. Rector held off Presley,
picking up his second win in a row. Presley finished
a close second, Nick Adams was third, Nathan Adams
finished fourth, and #7 Daniel Sizemore rounded
out the top five.
The Mini Stock class saw #0 Paul Ramsey take the
heat race win. Ramsey grabbed the lead at the start
of the 20-lap feature, followed by #73 Dustin Halbrooks
in second and #92 Jason Qualls was third. On lap
9, Halbrooks took over the lead from Ramsey. One
lap later Qualls would get by Ramsey for second.
Then on lap 11, Halbrooks spun while leading which
brought out the caution and Halbrooks was sent to
the rear of the field. This gave the lead to Qualls,
who lead the remaining 9 laps for his 5th win of
the year. Halbrook made his back to the front to
finish second, Ramsey was third, #15 Tony Lewis
to home fourth, and #34 Dustin Benton rounded out
the top five.
In the Jr. Hornet Class, #A198 Kelly Morton picked
up her fourth feature win of the year. #17 Carlie
Mullinax was second, #K46 Kenzie Kirkland third,
and #01 Kane Pelfrey finished in fourth. Morton
also won the heat race.
#20 Mike Selby swept the nights events in the A-Hobby
class, by winning the heat race and the 15-lap feature
race. #04 Dean Travis was a distant second, #28
Jeff Cotterman was third, and #1 Joey Whittenburg
wound up fourth.
