Knox
picks up first Crossville win
Crossville,
TN (June 2nd) – The racing action was fast and furious
again on Saturday night. With cooler temperatures
out, it made ideal weather for sling-em sideways
dirt track action.
In Late Model qualifying it was #34 Ruben Mayfield
setting fast time, with a lap of 14.03. Heat race
#1 was won by #25 Lynn Selby, followed by #4X Joe
Cline in second, and #49 Jeff Walker rounded out
the top three. The second heat race saw #77 Perry
Delaney take the win, followed by #58 Kenny Cobble
in second, and #75 Shannon Elrod rounding out the
top three. The Hoosier Fast Car Dash had #5M Scott
Shelton take the win, followed by #84 Buddy Knox
in second, and #8 Trent Mulliax rounding out the
top three.
The 30-lap feature started with Knox taking the
lead, with Shelton, and #122 Mike Weeks in third.
On lap 12 #5J Jesse Lowe got by Mullinax for fourth.
Weeks began pressuring Shelton for second on lap
15. Lap 24, Walker went up in smoke while running
in fifth. Weeks got by Shelton for second on lap
25. On the same lap, Lowe got by Shelton for third.
Knox drove an excellent race to pick up his first
career feature win at Crossville Raceway. Weeks
would finish second, Lowe was third, Shelton fourth,
and Elrod rounded out the top five.
In Street Stock action, it was #11 Raymond Sheppard
winning the heat race. In the feature Sheppard jumped
out to lead with #28 Adam Engle in second. On lap
5, Sheppard began experiencing problems. He slowed
on the track, handing the lead over to Engle. On
the restart Sheppard got by #94 Kevin Burchfield
for second. Engle led the remaining laps to pick
up his first feature at Crossville. Sheppard was
second and Burchfield finished third.
Excitement and the unexpected is the norm for the
Front Runner class and this week didn’t disappoint.
The heat races were won by #16R Robert Stone and
#J27 JD Rector. Stone powered into the lead at the
start, followed by #N90 Nick Adams and Rector in
third. On lap 3, #A93 Nathan Adams moved into fifth.
On lap 5, Nathan Adams took over fourth ahead of
#57 Stephen Conley. Lap 8 saw Nathan Adams get by
Nick Adams for third. Stephen Conley would get by
Nick Adams for fourth on lap 12. On lap 14, Stone
began losing fluid on the track, sending him into
the pits. This gave Rector the lead with Nathan
Adams in second. On the same lap, Stephen Conley
got by Nathan Adams for second. Nathan Adams got
back by Stephen Conley for second on lap 16. On
the same lap, Nick Adams and #3 Matthew Sullivan
got by Stephen Conley for third and fourth. Nathan
Adams passed Rector for the lead on lap 17. Adams
would hold onto the top spot, as he took the checkered
flag for the apparent win. BUT, Rector protested
Nathan Adams immediately following the race. Nathan
Adams refused to be tore down, thus turning over
the race win to Rector. Nick Adams finished second,
Sullivan was third, Stephen Conley finished in fourth,
and Stone rounded out the top five.
The Mini Stock class saw a decent amount of cars,
and in the heat races it was #25 Todd Spivey and
#34 Dustin Benton taking the wins. Spivey took the
lead at the start of the 20-lap feature. Benton
was running in second and #0 Paul Ramsey in third.
On lap 10, Paul Ramsey began pressuring Benton for
second. Lap 16 saw Paul Ramsey get by Benton for
second. Spivey went on to lead the remaining laps,
with Paul Ramsey finishing in second, Benton was
third, #15 Tony Lewis fourth, and #01 Ricky Ramsey
rounding out the top five.
#4 Kane Pelfrey won his 5th feature of the year
in the Jr. Hornet class. #K46 Kenzie Kirkland was
second, #17 Carlie Mullinax third, and #A198 Kelly
Morton finished in fourth.
Crossville Raceway will be in action on Tuesday
night, June 5th. The Late Models and the Front Runners
will be in action, along with a special appearance
by the Open Wheel Modifieds class. For more information
